About the Position

Cook - Full Time

This position provides cold and hot food preparation. This role is responsible to work positively with staff and volunteers from the guest and community groups, offering kind direction and servant leadership in the work of serving our guests. This role is responsible to ensure that meal services are completed to Mel Trotter standards and that all spaces are restored to cleanliness, organization, and security. This position is required to work various shifts including some weekends.

We will trust you with: (Job Responsibilities)

* Prepare cold and hot food according to recipe and quality standards

* Maintain cleanliness and comply with food sanitation standards at all times

* Serve all meals in accordance with established portions and presentation standards

* Maintain consistent communication with your team, Kitchen Supervisors, and Director of Culinary Service to ensure consistency and efficiency in preparation of food

* Exhibits and encourages positive team behaviors and work ethic

* Work with staff and guests to maintain a safe, sanitary and secure kitchen

* Set up, maintain, and break down prep area and service areas each shift

* Ensure knowledge of menu and food products

* Stock and maintain designated food stations(s)

* Visually inspect all food before it is presented

* Practice correct food handling and food storage procedures according to federal, state, local and company regulations

 

 Bring your strengths: (Job Requirements)

* Excellent hospitality and customer service, excellent communicator

* Catering or banquet experience preferred, not required

* Excellent knife and culinary skills, able to use of all kitchen equipment

* Experience cooking from scratch

* Excellent working knowledge of Michigan Food Code

* ServSafe certified or willing to be certified

* Works well in a fast-paced environment 

* Exercises positive change management

 

 Working Conditions:

* Regular standing, walking, climbing, crouching, bending, pushing, or pulling

* Understand, speak, read, and write fluent English

* Required to talk and hear

* Able to lift 50 pounds regularly

* Able to use fine motor hand functions

* Frequently exposed to varying temperatures

* Able to work actively and on one’s feet for up to eight hours
