Summary of the Role


The Benefits Administrator works under the direction and supervision of the VP of HR and is responsible for administering all aspects of our benefits program, including insurance and non-insurance benefits, and any related filings and reporting, in an accurate, thorough, and timely manner. This position supports our employer of choice initiatives, including our status as a Best & Brightest Company to Work For at both the regional and national level. This role contributes to our retention goals by gathering staff feedback and managing our stay and exit interview programs.

Job Plan

Benefit Information, Enrollment, Maintenance

·       Coordinates the annual benefits fair in collaboration with our partners at 44 North. Manages the online open enrollment process, offering assistance as needed.

·       Ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the HRIS to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information.

·       Assists with new-hire orientations.

·       Performs quality checks of benefits-related data.

·       Assists employees regarding benefits claim issues and plan changes.

·       Distributes all benefits enrollment materials and determines eligibility.

·       Assists employees with enrollment and processes life status changes.

·       Responds to benefits inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes and other general inquiries.

·       Processes and administers all leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork: medical, personal, disability and FMLA.

·       Effectively interprets FMLA and ADA implications as they relate to leaves of absences/disabilities. Maintains updated knowledge on compliance.

·       Ensures all compliance filings and disclosures are completed per deadlines.

Non-Insurance Benefits

·       Responds to 403b inquiries from managers and employees relating to enrollments, plan changes and contribution amounts. Manages the annual catch-up contribution enrollment. Coordinates with Payroll Administrator to process our annual match.

·       Administers the tuition reimbursement program by assisting with application and communication processes.

·       Manages all aspects of our PTO program.  

·       Leads our annual Best & Brightest campaign.

·       Provide reporting data pertaining to our EAP use.


·       Provide information and marketing for all wellness events, provide survey feedback following these events, make recommendations for future events.

·       Provide wellness webinar information and website links from our EAP.

·       Encourage staff access to Staff Ministry Supports.

Stay & Exit Interview Program

·       Provide quarterly stay interview support for department leaders

·       Provide exit interviews for all separated staff, enter data into survey model.

·       Provide quarterly and annual exit interview reporting, as well as ad hoc reporting when indicated.

·       Provide recommendations for solutions to trends discovered during stay and exit interviews.

·       Perform additional tasks and complete additional projects, upon request of Vice President of Human Resources.



·       HR Degree or SHRM certification preferred, but not required

·       Minimum two years of benefits administration, proven experience in HR practices

·       Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, comfortable with technology easily able to learn and implement new software.

·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills, grammar, and business writing

·       Team-oriented, eager contributor with a positive, solution-oriented work style

·       Models professionalism, in appearance, demeanor, decision-making, and speech

·       Ability to communicate verbally and to accurately hear, with hearing correction
