Summary of the Role

This position supports Mel Trotter Ministries (MTM) by providing expertise in implementation and maintenance of MTM training program. This role will work under the guidance of the Chief Operations Officer (COO) in vetting training courses and providers, as well as scheduling and documentation of completion of courses and certification. This role assists in evaluating the efficacy of course, as well as the development and implementation of new courses. The Director of Training will work in collaboration with department leaders and the HR department to provide and document relevant, dynamic courses for the development of our staff. This role is also tasked with maintaining a data base of all trainings and certifications for MTM employees, and providing this data as needed for the development of grants and compliance with funding requirements.

Job Plan

  • Assist in the development of tracks / programs for cyclical trainings of employees of the organization.
  • Perform business review and provide recommendation for training programs and vendors.
  • Collaborate with vendors and MTM leadership to implement and schedule trainings.
  • Collaborate with identified internal training providers on scheduling, content, and methodology.
  • Maintain updated vendor information, including contracts, agreements, contact information, and course description and costs.
  • Maintain cyclical course assignments and reporting for online training platform (Schoox). Provide reports to COO, HR, and department leaders.
  • Analyze the effectiveness of training and workshops to the employees and develop appropriate modification if needed.
  • Collaborate with COO to identify emerging or changing training needs, and schedule appropriate trainings and workshops.
  • Communicate any new training expectations to HR, for inclusion on annual evaluations and on job descriptions.
  • Maintain annual training calendar, providing ready access to COO and identified leadership.
  • Maintain system of recordkeeping to ensure employees are accomplishing all required trainings, and maintaining all required certifications. Provide all certifications to HR.
  • Provide updated data regarding training completions or gaps to COO, HR, and department leaders. 
  • Provide supportive data to satisfy requirements for current and future grant funding as well as internal goal achievement. (HMIS, Michigan Works Going Pro, MTM strategic goals)

  • CPR certification, according to requirements of specific roles at MTM
  • CPI certification
  • DEI (Diversity Equity and Inclusion) annual trainings including workshops and book studies
  • Recovery guest care

  • Safety Training: OSHA, first aid

  • Infectious diseases: Covid, Flu, Hepatitis, Blood-borne pathogens

  • Crisis Management - emergency reviews (weather, power outage, police calls, death of guest)

Qualifications

  • 3 - 5 years experience working with underserved communities and / or people groups
  • Strong organization and time-management skills to prioritize and set goals for productivity
  • Creative and problem-solving skills to invent new ways to accommodate the learning needs of contemporary learners
  • Effective communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills to inspire and engage learners
  • Good research skills to perform advanced and analytical research to find reliable and relevant content, vendors, and facilitators
  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred in education, business, Human Resources (HR), or length of related experience as a corporate trainer
  • Proven empathy skills and understanding of effective teaching methodologies and the willingness to keep abreast of new techniques in teaching
  • Experience in use of modern technology to develop training modules needed in online platforms
  • Ability and willingness to travel for trainings

Working Conditions
